Hi everyone,

Think for the past few weeks we've been blogging mainly announcements... hee..

I'd like to share my devotions and reflections with you all...

This week has been a very busy week from monday to friday morning. remember last sunday i also brought my lap top coz i needed to do some work? As my busyness crept in, I started doing things without depending on God. I depended on my experience and knowledge of what was good to sustain myself for the week. it was striving, both in academic and also "striving to be righteous spiritually" by doing what i think was right. e.g. i will try to read a bit of bible here and there without really really seeking God but more like trying to have a form of godliness. I will rationalise my hard work for bringing God glory through my work attitude etc. but i realise that i thought i was on the narrow path, i want to be on the narrow path but i was actually slipping into the wide path already. (matthew 7:13-14) i realised why this happens is because i carried the wrong burdens in life. i wanted to always do the right thing... but some things perhaps need not be done. I need to walk with God. not do what i deem is good. my first priority this week was not to worship God. but just for ME to survive this week. so selfish yah?

i went on to read ecclesiastes this morning. it's one of my favourite books of the bible. this verse caught my eyes for the first time:
"And I saw that all labor and all achievement spring from man's envy of his neighbor. " (4:4)

and this one:
"Better one handful with tranquility than two handfuls with toil and chaing after the wind." (4:6)

what does it say of me? Do i value work completion and excellence and perhaps favor of man over peace and intimacy with God?

Do i feel insecured and envy my friends who have no ministry work, no church to attend, no need to pray, no need to do the right thing? and that's why i set my heart to strive as hard as them to keep up, while trying to do the right thing?

Perhaps God never intended life to be a chasing after the wind. Perhaps God was right when he said he wants to cares for us. And that his yoke is easy and His burden is light, that he can handle our anxieities and we can trust him. and we can find rest for our souls.

Perhaps I will walk next week with my sole purpose to worship Him alone. and carrying only one desire: to love Him.

love,
jac
